Custom Pet Portrait Barbara #3
I love doing portraits of any type of pet, using your photo as inspiration for a portrait of your beloved pet that will capture your animal's delightful spirit and character. Pet portraits also make wonderful gifts and remembrances of pets that have crossed the rainbow bridge.
How to Commission Your Pet's Portrait
It would be my pleasure to paint a portrait of any type of animal, including dogs, cats, fish, horses, cows, you name it.
Unless you have a special request, your portrait will be painted on high quality Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper, with one painted on 12" x 16" (30.4 cm x 40.6 cm) or two or more painted on 14" x 20" (35.5 cm x 40.6) (or larger) sheets, in watercolor, pen & ink or other mixed media. Before shipping, approximately 1/4" (.6 cm) will be trimmed from each side of the paper to remove staples holes or tape residue resulting from stretching the paper prior to painting.
Process: Pencil sketches will be presented for your comment and approval prior to completion of your painting. If you have preferences concerning colors used in your painting, please let me know. Notify me then if you require any major changes such as adding/removing collar, ears pointed or folded, etc. I'll send you another proof when I'm done and will be happy to make up to two minor revisions then.
Before ordering, please look through the images of my paintings shown on this site to be sure that you like my style. If there are some of my paintings that you prefer over others, please let me know.
Framing: Paintings are shipped in a rigid photo mailer, unframed. I can provide a 12" x 16" (30.4 cm x 40.6 cm) white mat if desired. For do-it-yourself framing, I recommend archival frames such as the Nielsen Bainbridge line of frames sold by Amazon. If using a professional framer, ask for acid-free archival framing. Hang your artwork out of direct sun.
To create a detailed portrait that accurately represents your pet, I will need high quality, detailed, close-up photos that show details in your pet's eyes and fur. It's highly preferable that you take your photos outdoors in natural light and shoot from eye level. Smartphone photos are fine if they are in focus. It's helpful to send me multiple photos.
If your animal is no longer living and you can't shoot really good photos, send me what you have so that we can discuss them. It's possible, especially in the case of purebred dogs, that I may be able to work from stock photos of your breed, changing details such as markings that made your pet unique.
If you want more than one animal in a photo, you can send photos of them together or separate photos.
Copyright: As is customary with artists, I retain all rights to my work, which means that I may later offer prints of the painting I created for you. If this is a problem, please discuss it with me.
Delivery Time: Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. I may be able to accept your rush order. Please contact me about what you need.
